Talk, Tarot, and the Sacred Mountain

Macabro celebrates 50 years of the Museo del Chopo

Talk, Tarot, and the Sacred Mountain The iconic Museo del Chopo occupies a steel and glass building designed in Germany in 1902 and moved to Mexico; in 1913, it opened as the National Museum of Natural History, which housed critical scientific collections. In 1929, it became part of the UNAM, but was later closed. It was rescued in the 1970s and reopened in 1975 as a university museum. Since then, it has stood out for its focus on contemporary art and alternative cultural expressions.

As part of the museum's cultural offerings, in 1977 it opened the Cinematógrafo del Chopo, a movie theater known for its programming of auteur, cult, independent, and experimental films. It has also been the venue for Macabro since its second edition, when the festival was a showcase for independent and classic horror films. After 24 years of existence, Macabro joins in the celebration of the museum's 50th anniversary with a day of activities featuring magic, spirituality, the major arcana, and the occult.
