History
Macabro is the Mexico City International Horror Film Festival — the first and largest of its kind in Mexico and one of the most important in Latin America.
The festival
Founded in 2002 by Edna Campos Tenorio and Arturo Castelán in Mexico City, Macabro was born from the conviction that horror cinema is a legitimate cultural expression that deserved its own space in the Mexican festival circuit.
In 25 editions, the festival has screened over 2,000 films from more than 60 countries, presenting works by directors who are now global benchmarks in the genre. Macabro operates as a non-profit organization under the entity of Arte Audiovisual Alternativo, A.C.
What we do
In addition to the main feature and short film programming, Macabro produces México Macabro — a national tour that brings the festival to film clubs, universities, and museums across the country — and coordinates FANTASTIKA, the Ibero-American horror and fantasy co-production forum.
Macabro Coven (2020) highlights and supports female directors, screenwriters, and producers in the genre. Macabro Lab offers workshops and professional training. Las Sesiones del Macabro documents the Ibero-American horror ecosystem through a podcast.
Leadership
Graduate in Communication and Journalism from UNAM, with postgraduate studies in cultural policy and audiovisual distribution. Co-producer of "Alucardos: Retrato de un vampiro" (2011) and editor of multiple publications on genre cinema.
