13 SCREAM QUEENS

This week our contributor Casandra Vicario brings us a list of the 13 most terrifying Scream Queens. How many did you know?
1.-SIGOURNEY WEAVER. Her real name is Susan Alexandra Weaver, and she was born in New York. She makes this list thanks to her outstanding performance as Ellen Ripley in the 1979 “Alien” saga. Sigourney adopted her name after reading “The Great Gatsby” by Scott Fitzgerald, a novel featuring a character named Sigourney Fay.

2.- ADRIENNE BARBEAU. Born in Sacramento, California, Adrienne Jo Barbeau appears in various horror films such as “The Fog,” “Escape From New York,” “Creepshow,” “Two Evil Eyes,” and others. For several years, she was married to John Carpenter.

3.- BARBARA CRAMPTON. A recurring actress in many horror films, she was born in New York in 1958. Some of her films are “Re-Animator,” “From Beyond,” “Catle Freak,” “You Are Next,” and “The Lords of Salem,” to name a few.

4- JANET LEIGH. This wouldn't be a list of “Scream Queens” without mentioning the woman considered the first in this category, famous for the scene in which she dies while taking a shower in “Psycho,” a role for which she was nominated for an Oscar. Other films of hers include “The Fog” and “Halloween H20” alongside her daughter Jamie Lee Curtis.

5.- JAMIE LEE CURTIS. The daughter of Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh, Jamie was born in Los Angeles, California. Her first major acting role, the one that made her a true scream queen, was in John Carpenter's “Halloween” in 1978, playing Laurie Strode for several years, until her fate finally caught up with her.
6.- BARBABA STEELE. English by birth, this woman became famous for appearing in many genre films during the 1960s. Some examples? “The Pit and the Pendulum,” “Black Sunday,” “The Ghost,” “Dance Macabre,” David Cronenberg's “Shivers,” and even the original “Piranha” by Joe Dante in 1978.

7.-NEVE CAMPBELL. Famous for playing Sidney Prescott for several years in the last great American slasher saga, “Scream,” directed by Wes Craven. Born in Canada, and despite her appearance in this saga, Neve is an animal lover.

8.- INGRID PITT. Of Polish origin, her real name is Ingoushka Petrov. As a child, she spent some time in concentration camps. She was a great actress within the genre and has a diverse filmography that includes titles such as “Vampire Lovers,” “The Wiker Man,” “Countless Drácula,” and others.

9.- CAROLINA CATALDI TASSONI. She was born in Manhattan, but her parents moved to Italy when she was 4 years old. An actress, painter, singer, songwriter, and writer, she was discovered by Dario Argento to appear in “Demons 2.” From there, she would go on to appear in other films such as “Opera” and “The Phantom of the Opera.”

10.- HEATHER LANGENKAMP. Without a doubt, the queen of the “Nightmare on Elm Street” saga, playing Nancy Thompson. She also appeared in “Shocker” and currently has a website promoting a documentary called “I Am Nancy,” where you can even listen to a song about her terrifying experience on Elm Street, performed by Jamie Coon. She is currently 50 years old. How time flies!

11.- KATHERINE ISABELLE. This 32-year-old Canadian has done her thing in films such as “Ginger Snaps,” “Ginger Snaps Back,” “Freddy vs Jason,” and “American Mary.” She also appeared in the TV series “Hannibal” and in “See No Evil 2.”

12.- DANIELLE HARRIS. This 37-year-old from New York earns her place on this list for appearing in films such as “Halloween 4” as a child, “Halloween 5,” “Hatchet,” “Hatchet 2,” “Halloween 2” (Rob Zombie), “Stake Land,” and whatever else comes her way.

13.- ANGELA BETTIS. One of the most recent “scream queens.” She was born in Texas, has a twin brother named Joseph, and the vast majority of her horror work has been under the direction of Lucky McKee. She appears in “May,” “The Toolbox Murders,” “Carrie,” “The Woman,” “The ABCs of Death,” “The Woods,” “Roman,” and others.
