Pulquecinema presents: "La noche del asesino" at Pulquería Insurgentes

A very interesting special edition, Crímenes México. True Crime, in high demand ever since the press was born, is a genre that takes a criminal event and, through a hybrid with literature, offers an account of events that is as fascinating as it is repulsive. The events described in this special remind us of our worst fears as a country, roamed alike by serial killers and hitmen turned mass murderers. Many of these crimes have inspired true horror films.

Presented by: Gerardo Sifuentes, Omar Delgado, Luis Felipe Brice, and Iván Farías.

After the presentation, we will screen:

El profeta Mimi

Directed by: José Estrada | Mexico | 90 min | 1973

Cast: Ignacio López Tarso, Ofelia Guilmain, Ana Martín, Carmen Montejo, Roberto Guzmán

Filmed on location at the Portal de Santo Domingo and in the Guerrero neighborhood of Mexico City, "El profeta Mimí" tells the story of Ángel Peñafiel "Mimí" (López Tarso), a mature man who lives with his mother in a tenement. Driven by a desire for revenge, and owing to his religious fanaticism and the repression in which he had lived, he decides to strangle prostitutes using a black cord, all with the aim of redeeming them and freeing them from their guilt. However, despite his apparent naiveté, he faces a moral dilemma when the woman he loves and for whom he is willing to sacrifice himself (Ana Martín) becomes a prostitute due to her dire financial situation.

Pulquería Insurgentes - 8:00 p.m. - Free activities
