Press Release: Winners #MacabroXV

• The Macabro award was presented to the winners of the national and international feature-film and short-film competitive sections.
• The film Patchwork by director Tyler MacIntyre was screened.

Mexico City, September 1, 2016. Last night, the awards and closing ceremony of the fifteenth edition of the Macabro International Horror Film Festival of Mexico City took place. The event was hosted by Fernando Huerta Zamacona, host of Macabro FICH, and Edna Campos, director and founder of this festival, who expressed her satisfaction with the results achieved during this edition and took the opportunity to thank institutions, sponsors, media outlets, and the general public for their support.

This year, Macabro FICH screened Mexican films in the special section Mexico Macabro, opened the Macabro Day, a day of talks, round tables, and discussions, and dedicated a retrospective to the horror cinema icon Stuart Gordon.

As in every edition, the Macabro FICH lineup featured the competitive section in the categories: International Horror Feature Film, International Horror Short Film, and Mexican Horror Short Film. Through the call for entries that Macabro FICH launches every year, more than 1,000 titles were received, including features and shorts from various countries.

The official international horror feature film selection was made up of 16 films. The jury, made up of Mauricio Chernovetzky, Rodrigo Ordóñez, and Fernando Urdapilleta, was in charge of selecting the winner for Best International Feature Film:

The same jury selected the Best Feature Film Director:

• Carlos Meléndez for the feature film Histeria (Mexico, 2016)

Mexican filmmaker and screenwriter Laurette Flores and cinematographer Ricardo Téllez chose the Best International Short Film:

• I love you so much it's killing them (Canada, 2016)

Patricio Cervantes and Eduardo Santaella chose the Best Mexican Short Film:

• Déjala ir (Mexico, 2015)

Director: Arie Socorro

As in every edition, honorable mentions were given to:

• Madre de Dios by Gigi Saúl Guerrero (Mexico, 2015)
• HHL by Alberto Ordaz (Mexico, 2015)
• The Beast by Daina O. Pusic (Croatia, 2015)
• NSFW by C.A. Wallace (England, 2015)

To close out the macabre night, the screening took place of the fun horror comedy Patchwork by director Tyler MacIntyre (USA, Canada, 2015). The film tells the story of three young women who don't know each other, but who try to remember the events of the previous night that led to them being dismembered and ending up joined together in a single body. Awards: Screamfest 2015 - Best Film, Screamfest 2015 - Best Actress, Screamfest 2015 - Best Editing, Toronto After Dark Film Festival 2015 - Best Actress, Toronto After Dark Film Festival 2015 - Film Most Anticipated to Get a Sequel, Selection: Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival 2016, Calgary Underground Film Festival 2016, and Glasgow Film Festival 2016.
