Warming Up the Engines: Retrospective... Toward Macabro's XV Years.

This year, Macabro celebrates fifteen years of continuous operation. For fourteen years, the festival has been at the forefront of audience development, and of the dissemination, rescue, and reappraisal of Mexican and international genre cinema; of the study of horror cinema as industry, entertainment, and art; of content generation and research; and of support for its creation.

Macabro's staying power and continuity lie in its artistic, cultural, and entertainment proposal, which has favored independent genre cinema as well as emerging filmmakers, and which has grown and evolved in keeping with its position as a pioneer among genre festivals, earning the respect of audiences, media, and industry within the festival circuit in Mexico and around the world.

On this deeply symbolic anniversary, it is very important to look back at our own history and review, through this series titled "Toward the XV Years of the Mexico City Horror Film Festival," some of the titles that have been key to our programme over the years and that show why Macabro is and remains a fresh and different voice in the genre-cinema landscape.

Synopsis:What goes on in the mind of a horror artist and his fans? Manolo and Lalo are not only obsessed with the Mexican horror film Alucarda, but Manolo himself knows in his heart that he is this Sadean character. After finding the film's director in a psychiatric hospital, the two decide to kidnap him so that he will remember his gloriously twisted past.

Synopsis: Based on a story by Edgar Allan Poe. The story begins with the narration of Gastón Leblanc, who has returned to his hometown to write a story about the psychiatric hospital run by Dr. Millard and to learn about his famous method.

Synopsis: One night, Mary Gilmore's truck breaks down in the middle of a storm, so she seeks help at an old house, where she meets Ben Ryder, who will accompany her to investigate a series of murders under similar circumstances, all of which seem to share Mary's presence in common.
