Macabro Presents Its 2022 Image: #MacabroDistopico

Macabro presents the image for its twenty-first edition, #MacabroDistopico, an abstract-style cyborg inspired by science fiction cinema. The poster is the work of illustrator Diego Álvarez and designer Roxana Ruíz of Interior Q, who have been shaping Macabro's visual identity for more than ten years.

The idea grew out of reflecting on the state of our society and the return to everyday life after two years of pandemic. It seems we're back to normal, yet we find ourselves facing the breakdown of structures and a longing for freedom held in check by the fear of an illness that came to stay, unearthing old phobias and stirring up some new ones. This year we decided to dedicate our edition to exploring those phobias through science fiction, a genre that shares deep ties with horror and has given us some of the best stories and images of utopias and dystopias.

This year, Macabro is also returning 100% to in-person activities, with more than 20 venues across Mexico City, one in Puebla, two in the State of Mexico, plus streaming and television. It has the institutional support of the Ciudad de México Ministry of Culture, PROCINE CDMX, IMCINE-FilminLatino, Cineteca Nacional, the UNAM Film Library, Canal 22, and the Biblioteca de México.
