Known as “The Godmother of Rock,” “The High Priestess of Punk,” “The Ice Queen,” “The Goth Pop Priestess,” “Punks Princess,” and “The First Lady of Punk,” today is the birthday of Siouxie Sioux, and we're sharing 10 facts about her life with you.

1.- She was born on May 27 in England, and her full name is Susan Janet Ballion.

2.- Her father died of cirrhosis when she was 14 years old.

3.- Journalist Caroline Coon used a term to refer to the young people who were devoted followers of the Sex Pistols; it was the “Bromley Contingent,” which referred to a suburb of London where many of these young people lived, and Siouxie was part of this group.

4.- She was the vocalist of the band “Siouxie and the Banshees,” with whom she released 11 studio albums. She later became part of “The Creatures,” recording 4 albums; she began her solo career in 2004, and her debut album, titled “Mantaray,” was released in 2007 and had two singles, “Into the Swan” and “Here Comes That Day.”

5.- The album “Scream,” by Siouxie and the Banshees, released in 1978, is considered by the magazine New Musical Express as one of the best debut albums in history.

6.- The scene from the film “Batman Returns” in which the song “Face to face” plays during a dance is, for this writer, one of the most iconic scenes in the history of Tim Burton's filmography — he personally asked the band to compose this song, together with Danny Elfman, and it has been part of his music and the compilations ever since.

7.- In 2008, Siouxie Sioux contributed to the soundtrack of the film “The Edge of Love,” composed by Angelo Badalamenti, and in 2015, the song “Love Crime” played in the television series “Hannibal.”

8.- In 1982, she was approached for a role in the film “The Return of the Jedi,” but nothing came of it.

9.- She supports the work carried out by PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).

10.-Siouxie Sioux appears in two films, playing herself in both, and in both she doesn't appear in the credits since the roles are very small. The first of these is “Jubilee” in 1978, directed by Derek Jarman; the second is “Out of Bounds” by Richard Tuggle.
