The website Indie Wire (abre en nueva pestaña) published its list of the most anticipated films for the summer, among which it included the 5 most anticipated horror films of the season:

1. Revenge. Starring Matilda Anna Ingrid Lutz, it's a revenge film in which the protagonist, Jane, is ambushed by three men very close to her with very bad intentions, turning her into a brutal final girl. The website recommends it “if you love extreme French cinema like High Tension and Martyrs”.

2. Cargo. This is a Netflix original film, a zombie film with a twist set in the Australian outback, starring Martin Freeman as an infected father trying to protect his daughter from the dangers around her—and from himself. “Cargo is a refreshing twist on the genre, full of great scares and tear-jerking moments”.

3. Hereditary. Probably the most anticipated horror film of the season and of the year. After surprising audiences at the recent Sundance Film Festival and positioning itself alongside A Quiet Place as THE horror films of the year.

Heriditary introduces Toni Collete as a woman who, after the loss of her mother, uncovers dark secrets about her family and her ancestors. “Packed with chilling imagery, Collete's powerful performance, and a mysterious young girl, Hereditary will surely terrify audiences and will be an unforgettable experience in theaters this summer”.

4. The First Purge “Calling The Purge our best contemporary horror franchise might seem like an insult to venerated efforts such as Anabelle and Insidious, but it's true. This strange franchise, which since its first installment has given us this dystopian vision of the near future in which all crime is legal for 12 hours every year, has cleverly relied on the premise not seeming so far-fetched.”

This prequel tries out a new director, Gerard McMurray, showing a story where the Purge arrives as a trial run in a single town, before becoming a national custom.

5. Slender Man. Probably the weakest film in this pack of five. Based on an urban legend that lives on the internet and has grown in popularity through belief in the web's apocryphal information. “Now more than ever, people need to believe—so much so that they might just go see this film”.
