#MacabroTurístico: The National Sanctuary of the Angel of Santa Muerte

If you enjoy visiting unusual places and learning about lifestyles and beliefs that differ from the traditional, this is probably of interest to you.

Located in the historic center of Mexico City, the Santa Muerte sanctuary is one of the most important sites for devotees of the White Girl. Three times a week, believers gather at the modest temple on Calle Bravo to take part in ceremonies rooted in Catholic tradition.

Santa Muerte is probably the most popular deity after Santa María de Guadalupe, something condemned by the Vatican, which calls this cult blasphemous. She is often associated with drug cartels and crime, an idol to be destroyed, the one who lost hope, and is considered an intruder by the Catholic Church.

Inside the temple stands a large statue of La Santa Muerte on the main altar. In 2007, the chapel's bishop replaced the skeletal figure with a white mannequin, the angel of Santa Muerte, to avoid association with criminal acts.
