#MacabroXVII: Archivo Permanencia Voluntaria presents Santo vs la hija de Frankenstein

For the third consecutive year, Macabro and the Archivo Permanencia Voluntaria join together to present, in a special screening in glorious 35 mm, the film Santo vs la hija de Frankenstein, as part of the Frankenstein 200 series, which will be part of the #MacabroXVII activities.
The film tells the story of Dr. Frankenstein (Gina Romand), daughter of the monster's creator, who tries to concoct the elixir of youth using blood from corpses, with little success. In her eagerness to achieve her goal, she thinks the blood of an extraordinary being like Santo will help make the elixir's effect permanent, so she devises a plan to trap the wrestler, kidnapping his goddaughter Norma (Anel).
Santo contra la hija de Frankenstein is a production by Guilllermo Calderón Stell (Cinematográfica Calderón) and Santo himself, directed by Miguel M. Delgado, with music by Gustavo César Carreón, and starring: Santo El Enmascarado de Plata, Gina Romand, Anel, Roberto Cañedo, Carlos Agosti, Sonia Fuentes, David Ayala, Goliat Ayala, Domenico Bazan El Audaz, Ismael Ramírez, Carlos Suárez, Gerardo Zepeda El Chiquilín, Jorge Casanova, Carlos Bravo, and Fernández Carlhillos
Permanencia Voluntaria is a film archive and a space for promoting Mexican cinema, located in Tepoztlán, Morelos, and directed by Viviana García Besné.
As a project and platform, Permanencia Voluntaria is dedicated to the rescue, conservation, and preservation of a wide variety of materials: paper, photographs, posters, audio, 16 mm and 35 mm film, and video. Through curatorial work, exhibitions, and various editorial projects, it also seeks to generate new lines of interpretation for cinema and to chart different possibilities for its history.
Beyond safeguarding and disseminating materials, its goal is to preserve the experience of popular Mexican cinema. The name Permanencia Voluntaria evokes precisely the audience, who, in the past and in the present, have preserved the history of popular cinema through memory and fandom. The collection's original, one-of-a-kind materials revive the universe of voices, production spaces, consumption environments, industrial dynamism, and aesthetic complexity that gave life to cinema.
Macabro XVII will take place from August 21 to September 2, 2018 with film screenings and related activities throughout the month of August and part of September, Macabro will emerge in the city with a unique celebration of horror cinema in a coven that will include experiences involving specialized and cinephile audiences, media, the film community, Q&A sessions with guests, master classes, workshops, music, retrospectives, tributes, parties, music, and tourism promotion.
