#MacabroXVII: Macabre Screenings as Part of Aurora XIV

A year has passed and once again we return to Guanajuato to present programs and special events as part of the 14th edition of Aurora. This year we arrive alongside one of the most iconic figures in Mexican cinema, Alucarda, to whom we dedicated our last edition and of which we bring a taste in our suitcase: the screening of the film, already a cult classic of Mexican horror cinema, and the commemorative book we prepared for the festival together with Manuel Santillán, custodian of the work of Juan López Moctezuma.

Rounding out our participation is the presentation of a selection of short films that showcase the diversity of the genre in themes and techniques.

Macabro is the first genre film festival in Mexico. It was created as a space for showcasing contemporary horror cinema, as well as for rescuing and reappraising classic and cult cinema, promoting the development of Mexican and Latin American genre filmmaking, historical review, and support for emerging talent, with a programming model that has marked a turning point in the screening of horror and fantasy cinema in Mexico.

Friday, March 1 - Auditorio Euquerio Guerrero - 6:00 p.m.

LO MÁS MACABRO DE CAOSTICA, VOL. 3

Once again, the "rat kids" of Bilbao's Caostica International Short Film and Music Video Festival pay homage to venerable Macabro as it deserves. At the ceremony, 9 video-psalms from the most remote corners of the bizarre universe will be screened in a homily christened "Lo más Macabro de Caostica, Vol. 3".

ALUCARDA BOOK PRESENTATION

This year Macabro celebrated the 40th anniversary of Alucarda: la hija de las tinieblas, a film that led its director, Juan López Moctezuma, to posthumous acclaim and turned actress Tina Romero into one of the iconic figures of Mexican horror cinema. The celebration prepared by Macabro included the publication of a commemorative book and a special screening of the film.

The commemorative Alucarda book includes graphic material from the archive of Juan López Moctezuma himself, held by Manuel Santillán Durán, as well as texts by specialists on the subject such as Mauricio Matamoros, Rebeca Jiménez Calero, and Iván Farías, among others. The book was published by Samsara Editorial, coordinated by Edna Campos, director of Macabro.
