#MacabroXVIII: Second Lineup Preview

FIRST TITLES OF THE OFFICIAL SELECTION

This year, Macabro will present a rich selection of international and Ibero-American competition.

Among the first titles to emerge from it are Feral by Andrés Kaiser (Mexico, 2018), one of the contemporary Mexican horror films that has drawn the most attention thanks to the success it achieved following its premiere at the Los Cabos International Film Festival. The director, screenwriter, writer, and editor sets his film deep in the Sierra de Oaxaca as a metaphor for where he believes true horror hides: the human heart.

The Head Hunter by Jordan Downey (United States, 2018), is an epic-style film in which a medieval warrior relentlessly searches for the monster that took his daughter from him and will not rest until its head hangs on the wall of his home. It is a tale of chivalry mixed with supernatural beings, guided by the premise “he who fights monsters…”, moving from vast open-air locations to claustrophobic settings to set both the pace and the atmosphere of a film that will leave you breathless.

THE NIGHT OF THE SERIAL KILLER: PANEL PRESENTATION + SCREENING + PARTY AT PULQUERÍA INSURGENTES

A very interesting special edition: Crímenes México. True crime, in high demand ever since the press was born, is a genre that takes a criminal act and, through a hybrid with literature, offers an account of events that are as fascinating as they are repulsive. The events described in this special remind us of our worst fears as a country, roamed alike by serial killers and hitmen turned mass murderers. Many of these crimes have inspired truly terrifying films.

Presented by: Gerardo Sifuentes, Omar Delgado, Luis Felipe Brice, and Iván Farías.

After the presentation, we will have the screening of the film El profeta Mimí directed by José Estrada (Mexico, 1973), which was inspired by the case of the famous serial killer Gregorio “Goyo” Cárdenas. The film tells the story of Ángel Peñafiel "Mimí" (López Tarso), a middle-aged man who lives with his mother in a tenement. Driven by a desire for revenge, and due to his religious fanaticism and the repression he has lived under, he decides to hang prostitutes using a black cord, all with the aim of redeeming them and freeing them from their guilt. However, despite his seemingly naive nature, he faces a moral dilemma when the woman he loves and for whom he is willing to sacrifice himself (Ana Martín) becomes a prostitute due to her difficult financial situation.

COLLABORATIVE BEER PRESENTATION #BELGIANMACABRO

On a journey outside the underworld, the spirit of Macabro visited the Hacienda de la Concordia, where it found the magical ingredients to brew its own beer. Thus, Macabro FICH and Cervecería Concordia, following a mandate from the underworld, present #BelgianMacabro, the beer created especially for the annual celebration in honor of Macabro.

The beer will go on sale starting in August at various establishments in Mexico City and the metropolitan area.

MACABRO IS ONCE AGAIN SUPPORTED BY PROCINE CIUDAD DE MÉXICO
