MEXICO MACABRO: 20 YEARS OF HORROR CINEMA IN MEXICO

This Friday, August 20, the presentation of Mexico Macabro: 20 Years of Horror Cinema in Mexico took place. At the conference were Edna Campos, the festival's director; Lola Díaz-González, IMCINE's Deputy Director of National Distribution and Promotion; and Carlos Meléndez and Pablo Olmos Arraya, directors of two of the films in this cycle, who highlighted the important promotion and exhibition work carried out year after year by Macabro FICH.
Mexico Macabro: 20 Years of Horror Cinema in Mexico is a retrospective featuring titles that have been part of the programme of Macabro: Mexico City International Horror Film Festival between 2008 and 2020.
The cycle will begin digitally on August 20, 2021, as part of the programme of the twentieth edition of Macabro: Mexico City International Horror Film Festival on the platform Plataforma Cine, where five titles will screen through August 27 and will then tour physical venues in the states of Puebla (Cinemateca Luis Buñuel), Morelos (La Carreta mobile cinema and Cine Morelos), Chihuahua (Rancho San Antonio Estudios), Guanajuato (Museo Iconográfico del Quijote), and Aguascalientes (Verne Cinema), wrapping up on November 21, 2021. All screenings, both digital and in-person, will be free.
This cycle stands not only as one of the most representative celebratory activities of the largest and longest-running genre film festival in Mexico, but also as a testament to what the 21st-century rebirth of production —mostly independent— has meant for a genre that achieved great results in the early years of cinema in our country. Thanks to the support of FOCINE and IMCINE, Macabro will be seen in other parts of the Mexican Republic.
