Cannibal Carnage - The most forbidden Horror ever made
This documentary explores one of the most controversial subgenres in film history: the Italian cannibal films of the 1970s and early 1980s.
Through in-depth interviews with key figures of the movement –including Ruggero Deodato, Umberto Lenzi, Sergio Martino, Giovanni Lombardo Radice, Sergio D’Offizi, Massimo Antonello Geleng, Francesco Barilli and Joe D’Amato– the documentary reconstructs the birth of a genre situated between exploitation cinema, political provocation and radical filmmaking.
The film examines the artistic ambitions, technical ingenuity and international market forces that enabled these productions, while also addressing censorship, scandal and moral controversy that ultimately led to their decline.
