The film pays homage to great classics of the '80s like The Goonies, Stand by Me, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids and shares stylistic traits with contemporary references like Stranger Things. It also draws heavily on the humor of classic comedies like the Naked Gun franchise and the filmography of Monty Python.
