During the long journey, Hutter spends the night at an inn, where he leafs through an old treatise on vampires that he finds in his room. Once at the castle, he is received by the sinister count. The next day, Hutter wakes to find two small marks on his neck, which he takes for mosquito bites. Once the contract is signed, he discovers that the count is, in fact, a vampire.
