Official Mexican Horror Short Film Selection - Macabro XX

Mexico City's International Horror Film Festival, Macabro, is pleased to announce the official selection of Mexican horror short films

QUÉ VERÁN LOS DRAGONES EN LAS CHICAS COMO YO | Dir. Gerard Mates | Mexico | 2018 | 14 min. A knight embarks on a crusade to rescue a princess in danger: a social media influencer. However, the rescue doesn't mean the pair get a happy ending in a city infested with dragons.

TERCERA CAÍDA | Dir. Gerardo Herrera | Mexico | 2019 | 8 min. El Taxista Verde, the wrestler beloved by all children, must fulfill the destiny written in his blood: putting an end to the plans of Eslabón Perdido and the entourage of vampires backing him.

VUELVEN | Dir. Farid Cano | Mexico | 2021 | 9 min. Bruno and Carolina are a couple of survivors of a zombie apocalypse. Carolina is bitten, and he must decide whether to kill her before she turns or abandon her.

4 PAREDES | Dir. Carlos A. Castañón | Mexico | 2021 | 14 min. Edgar is a writer traumatized by the death of his wife and daughter. Through letters, he seduces Death. With each one, she lets him see his family on the condition that he witness how they died.

OLIVE’S APARTMENT IS HAUNTED | Dir. Rosa Carranza | Mexico, Canada | 2020 | 6 min. After losing her mother, Olive, a woman who loves Halloween and Day of the Dead, grieves through the holidays. After handing out some candy, Olive starts being haunted by a ghost hiding under a sheet.

SEGUNDOS | Dir. Silvia Tort | Mexico | 2021 | 13 min. A murder is about to take place in the apartment of an old building, and Beto, one of the neighbors, is the only one who, without knowing it, can prevent such a tragic event with the help of Inés, an elderly neighbor who has the power to play with time to manipulate the future. However, his chances of avoiding disaster are limited.

LA OSCURIDAD | Dir. Jorge Sistos Moreno | Mexico | 2020 | 20 min. Marina, a former elementary school teacher, emerges badly injured from a lake. After a long journey under the scorching Mexican sun, she arrives at the school where she once worked.

LA BOCA DEL DIABLO | Dir. Gabriela García Rivas | Mexico | 2021 | 13 min. A boy who suffers abuse at school must prove his courage one night by entering the mysterious devil's mouth, a cave said to be the site of paranormal events. Starring Arcelia Ramírez.

SUPERFICIES | Dir. José Luis González Peña | Mexico | 2021 | 15 min. A flat tire leaves Elanio and his brother Mirlo stranded in the middle of nowhere. While Elanio looks for help, Mirlo unexpectedly meets Alondra, a young woman willing to help them if they take her to Mexico City.

VIL | Dir. Moisés Pareja Rangel | Mexico | 2020 | 14 min. After a lifetime of guilt for having been an executioner, Abel Carbajal is visited by Ángela, a young woman seeking revenge against him. Without knowing it, both will find their own redemption. This short film features the final performance of master Gabriel Retes.

PRISIONERO 6 | Dir. Angel Armando García | Mexico | 2020 | 6 min. A prisoner is held captive by doctors who study and experiment with his paranormal effects. His lawyer will try to free him before there's no turning back.

COVIDA | Dir. Verónica Maciel | Mexico, United States | 2021 | 7 min. Caro must face a life-or-death decision when her mother is infected with a zombie virus.

INSOLACIÓN | Dir. Rogelio Sánchez Toledo | Mexico | 2020 | 18 min. A couple confronts the horrors of global warming and political indifference on the hottest day of the year.

VESTIGIUM | Dir. Julio César Durán | Mexico | 2020 | 9 min. A traveler recounts her impressions of Earth and the stain of devastation that has brought the planet to its knees.

N.O.R.A. | Dir. Juan Garrafa | Mexico | 2021 | 15 min. Esteban and Samuel search for the last vestiges of women's existence. One day they find one, or so it seems, named Nora, who could be the last hope or a terrible punishment for those who still inhabit the Earth.

EL ÚLTIMO CIGARRO DE JACK | Dir. Ismael Capistrán | Mexico | 2020 | 4 min. Driving down the highway at dusk, Jack tries to light a cigarette. He doesn't suspect that he isn't as alone as he thinks, nor that this could be his last cigarette.

LA BRUJA | Dir. Dorian Gutiérrez Picazo | Mexico | 2020 | 11 min. Arriving home drunk, Martín, an old farmer, attacks his wife Nicha and their grandson. Under the influence of witchcraft, Martín and Nicha fall into a sleep they cannot wake from, while a witch kills their grandson.

EL ENCANTADOR SEÑOR BRAMBILA | Dir. Irving Serrano | Mexico | 2021 | 26 min. Mr. Brambila, a wealthy man in the 1950s, receives news that he has terminal cancer. After witnessing an accident, he meets Death and begins a romance with her that will change the course of his final days.

TENOCH | Dir. León Landazuri | Mexico | 2021 | 10 min. Abandoned, a woman about to give birth arrives at an old woman's home seeking help delivering her child. However, she will soon learn that every action has its consequence...

EL CIELO DE LOS OTROS | Dir. Alejandro G. Alegre | Mexico | 2021 | 13 min. After several electrical storms, Jacobo begins to lose his sanity amid a lockdown.

AND THEN GOD LAUGHED | Dir. Sonya Z. Dagata & Carlos Robles-Gil | Mexico, Czech Republic | 2019 | 27 min. After losing his job and his girlfriend in the worst morning of his life, an expat living in Prague turns to his carefree neighbor for support, only to find her caught up in her own predicament: a bloody crime scene she appears to be guilty of.

LA ÚLTIMA CENA | Dir. Mitzi Martínez | Mexico| 2021 | 10 min. (Winning project of the first Macabro Coven call for entries) Manuel, a thief from Mexico City, steals to survive and pay off his debts. One night, like any other, he goes out to rob, not knowing he is being followed by a supernatural entity that foretells his death.
