We invite you to take part in the XVIII edition of Macabro: Mexico City International Horror Film Festival, which will take place in August 2019. We ask that you carefully read this call for entries in full, as well as the entry form, before submitting your works and/or entry forms. We will gladly answer your questions and provide additional information NOT INCLUDED in this call for entries at the following email addresses: programación@macabro.mx and/or contacto@macabro.mx

1- TERMS OF PARTICIPATION 1.1 There is no age or nationality limit to participate. 1.2 Each participant may submit as many works as they wish. 1.3 Works will initially be considered for inclusion in the COMPETITION sections: International Horror Feature Film, Latin American Horror Feature Film, Mexican Horror Short Film, and International Horror Short Film. Films NOT selected for competition may be considered for the PARALLEL SCREENING sections. 1.4 Macabro FICH does not pay screening fees for films in competition. 1.5 There is no restriction on the work's original format. 1.6 The production date for participating in the competition may not be earlier than 2017. 1.7 Feature films that have previously screened in Mexico City before the 2019 edition of Macabro may NOT take part in the competitive selection; they may only be considered for SCREENING within the festival.

2.- REGISTRATION. 2.1 The registration period begins upon publication of this call for entries. 2.2. Entry forms and screeners will only be accepted online through the website https://filmfreeway.com/Macabro (abre en nueva pestaña) 2.3 The authors are responsible for the rights to their works. 2.4 The registration deadline is: April 30, 2019.

3.- SELECTION. 3.1 Works will be selected for competition or screening. The final decision will be unappealable. 3.2 The organization will set the date and order in which the films are screened. Should films be requested for screenings held after the main Showcase, the organization will notify producers, directors, and/or distributors by email. 3.3 Selected works will preferably be screened in DCP or Blu-Ray. 3.4 Works spoken in languages other than Spanish will be presented subtitled in English or Spanish. 3.5 Screening copies must be sent within the timeframe and in the formats agreed upon with the organization. 3.6 Award-winning works may be screened by the organization as part of its commitments to its partners. 3.7 The MACABRO FICH programme may be taken to other states and countries. If you agree to have your work included in screenings held after the festival, please indicate so in the corresponding section of the entry form. 3.8 MACABRO FICH may invite feature films to the competition section. Requesting screeners for review purposes will not be considered an invitation. 3.9 To be considered for selection, a feature film must run between 60 and 120 minutes, credits included. 3.10 To be considered for selection, a short film must run between 1 and 29 minutes, credits included. 3.11 The organization reserves the right to schedule mid-length films (30 to 59 minutes).

4.- SUBMISSION OF SELECTED FILMS 4.1 Selected works must be sent within the timeframe and in the formats agreed upon with the Festival organization. 4.2 If the selected film is a “work in progress,” THE ORGANIZATION MUST BE NOTIFIED AT THE TIME OF REGISTRATION, along with the delivery date of the finished work for screening; otherwise, it may be dropped from the programme without prior notice. The organization reserves the right to include the “work in progress” in its programme. 4.3 Macabro FICH will contact each and every author of the SELECTED WORKS directly to inform them of their participation conditions. 4.4 If your work is not selected and you request feedback on it, there will be a cost of $100 USD.

5.- JURY

5.1 The Official Jury will be made up of renowned national and international filmmakers and specialists and will be responsible for awarding the prizes. Macabro FICH will announce the Jury members ahead of the Festival. 5.2 The Jury's decision will be unappealable and any of the awards may be declared void.

6.- ACCEPTANCE OF THE TERMS 6.1 The Organization will resolve any questions that may arise, and its final decision will be unappealable. 6.2 The Organization may screen excerpts of the selected feature films for promotional purposes (website, social media, television, etc.). 6.3 Registration implies acceptance of these terms.

7.- AWARDS

The following awards are established: 7.1 Macabro Grand Prize for Best International Feature Film – Red FICH Statuette 7.2 Macabro Sapphire Award for Best Latin American Feature Film – Blue FICH Statuette 7.3 Macabro Silver Award for Best Director – Silver FICH Statuette 7.4 Macabro Jade Award for Best Mexican Short Film – Green FICH Statuette 7.5 Macabro Onyx Award for Best International Short Film – Black FICH Statuette 7.6 Macabro Award for Best Animated Short Film – Purple FICH Statuette 7.7 Macabro Ghost Award for the film chosen by the Macabro audience – White FICH Statuette All films produced between 2016 and 2018, regardless of nationality or section, may be voted on for the audience award. 7.8 Macabro Award for Best Film Chosen by the Press – Bronze FICH Statuette The award will be given by members of the press accredited to cover the festival. 7.9 Special mentions in various categories. 7.10 Macabro FICH will announce the cash and/or in-kind prizes for each competition in due time.

8. ABOUT MACABRO Macabro is an event produced by Arte Audiovisual Alternativo, A.C., a nonprofit organization dedicated to cultural management and audiovisual production. Macabro FICH, the Macabro logo, and Festival Macabro are for the exclusive use of Arte Audiovisual Alternativo, A.C. Their use without prior authorization from the Festival organizers is prohibited.
