Open Calls for Entries #MacabroXVII

Macabro FICH opens its call for entries for the festival's 2018 edition, marking 17 years of continuous programming.

For this edition, Macabro will add two new awards: the Macabro Award for Animated Short Film and the Macabro Press Award. Both are added to the ones already in place: Best International Horror Feature Film, Best Ibero-American Horror Feature Film, Best Mexican Horror Short Film, Best International Horror Short Film, and the Audience Phantom Award.

Registration will open on Thursday, November 30, 2017, through the portal Filmfreeway.com and will close on March 31, 2018. The seventeenth edition of Macabro will take place in August 2018, at its traditional venues in Mexico City.

Macabro is the first and most experienced genre film festival in Mexico, and the second oldest in Latin America. Over the past 16 years, Macabro has established itself as a platform for the exhibition, training, and creation of contemporary horror cinema, as well as for the rescue and reappraisal of classic and cult genre cinema. It is considered one of the most respected festivals on the circuit in Mexico and Latin America.

The festival has been based in Mexico City since its founding in 2002. Over eleven days, with additional activities throughout the month of August, it brings to the city a celebration of horror cinema that involves specialized audiences and film buffs; media, industry professionals, and Q&A sessions with national and international guests; master classes, workshops, music, retrospectives, tributes, parties, book presentations, and special programs. Its structure and programming approach have served as a foundation and example for similar events.

In October of this year, Movie Maker Magazine included it in its list of the 15 “bloodiest” genre festivals in the world for 2018.
