#MacabroXVII Call for Works

The Macabro FICH 2018 Call for Works is now online. Next year the festival will celebrate its 17th anniversary.

For this edition, Macabro is adding two new awards: the Macabro Animation Award for animated short films and the Macabro Press Award. Macabro will also present its established awards: the Macabro Award for International Horror Feature Film, the Macabro Sapphire Award for Latin American Horror Feature Film, the Macabro Jade Award for Best Mexican Short Film, the Macabro Onix Award for Best International Short Film, and the Macabro Ghost Award for Best Picture as selected by the Macabro Audience.

Submissions will be accepted starting November 30, 2017 on Filmfreeway.com, with a closing deadline of March 31, 2018. The seventeenth edition of Macabro will take place in August 2018 in its traditional venues in Mexico City.

Macabro is the first genre film festival in Mexico and the second in Latin America. Based in Mexico City since 2002, it began as an event for the exhibition of independent new horror films as well as classic and cult movies.

For ten days every August, the festival brings to Mexico City a celebration of horror films — a successful event that involves the media, social circles, and the film industry through film screenings, Q&A sessions with guests, master classes, music, retrospectives, homages, parties with filmmakers and audiences, and trips to cool, touristic spots around the city. Macabro reaches about 40,000 people at its live venues and more than a million on social media.

Macabro is the country's first, and biggest, festival of its kind — "one that's run with passion and imagination and shouldn't be missed," according to Movie Maker Magazine's "15 Bloody Best Genre Film Festivals of the World" (October 2017).
