Macabro XXII Winners

We present the winners of the XXII edition of Macabro: Mexico City International Film Festival

The pagan summer festival returned, inspired by the great films of folk horror, cults, initiation rites, dark rituals, and masks – a symbol with a constant presence in horror cinema-; cinema that reflects on the genre so far in the 21st century, who makes it, its evolution, its themes, its characters, its protagonists, and its new monsters.

Our macabre carnival ends with 13 days of films, talks with guests, parties, presentations, masks, wrestlers, coffee tables, killer lasagnas, ancestral goddesses, burned witches, shamans, serial killers, dangerous games, broken families, complicit families, aliens and dictatorships, monsters, animation, and color. A mosaic that tells us the genre is much more than jump scares and surprises.

INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM Macabro Award for Best International Short Film: Paloquemao by Jeferson Cardoza Herrera of Colombia Honorable mention: Sylvie Made It by Adrien Orville (Belgium)

ANIMATED SHORT FILM Macabro Award for Best Animated Short Film Skinned by Joachim Hérissé of France

Honorable Mention: Los Cuervos by Héctor Dávila Carrera (Mexico) and La melodía torrencial by José Luis Saturno (Mexico)

MEXICAN SHORT FILM Macabro Award for Best Mexican Short Film: Descenso by Alejandro Aguirre Tanus

IBERO-AMERICAN FEATURE FILM Macabro Award for Best Ibero-American Feature Film Legiones by Fabián Forte of Argentina Macabro Award for Best Director: Luciana Mazeto, Vinícius Lopes for Despedida (Brazil) Honorable mention in direction: Jorge Michel Grau for Rabia (Mexico)
