Thank you for another great edition... long live Macabro!

August was and is the month of Macabro. 2022 was the year of the macabre dystopia. 2023 was the rebirth of the greatest monster: Macabro. After the pandemic years, we came back with new challenges and new ideas. A pagan carnival filled with initiation rites, dark rituals, and masks. We revisited the anguish of family tragedy (La mesita del comedor, Meltdown, Rabia and Megalomaniac); the perspective of 15 women directors on one of the most controversial subjects in Give me an A; the effects of the post-pandemic period in Apokawixa by Zawery Zulaswki; the stories and legends stemming from and inspired by world folklore (Irati, Legiones, Der Schwarze Spinne and Mother Superior; witchcraft (Juego de Brujas, The ones you didn’t burn); supernatural horror in Recuerdos del mal; the referential wonders in Minore and A lasanha assassina; the look at disappearances and murders in our country told through various short-film stories; the horror of reality surpassing fantasy in the documentary Isla Alien and the delirium of a Japanese auteur — Yoshihiro Nishimura — already familiar to Macabro, present with two works: Holy Mother and Onimanji. And that's just a taste.

This pagan carnival was made possible by the great work of the Team: Jocelyn Guzmán, Mario “Ayanami” Valencia, Alan Huerta, Diego “soy leyenda” Vilchis, Mabel Tinajero, Giovanni Carbajal, Arturo Rojas Rojas, Casandra Vicario, Sharon Toribio, Sandra Monroy Mandujano, Ángel Fernández, Rodrigo Mejías, Dulce Rojas Brenda Gutiérrez, Pedro Torres, Sasha Conde, Iván Contreras, João Fleck, Nicolas Tonsho, Gina Cobos, Jaime Rosales, Sagrario Reyes, Diana Galán, Paola Bonilla, Carlos Pérez, Mariel Cortés, Roxana Ruíz, Diego Álvarez, and Daniel Ballinas Núñez.
