Mexico City, July 1, 2026.— The Mexico City International Horror Film Festival, MACABRO, turns 25 this year, and as part of the special activities to celebrate these two and a half decades, two special events will be presented that tell the essence and history of the festival throughout its existence.

Over these 25 uninterrupted years of the festival, a solid community has been built around horror and fantasy cinema, understanding this genre not only as entertainment, but as a powerful aesthetic and symbolic tool for reflecting on our fears, social tensions, and collective imaginaries.

Thus, MACABRO FICH makes festival memorabilia available to the public and pays tribute to the history, the films, and the audience that has built this festival through their attendance and participation.

ARS MACABRA: 25 YEARS OF MIRACLES, POSTERS, AND FETISHES

The image of MACABRO is without a doubt one of the festival's most distinctive features. That's why, at the Museo Mexicano del Diseño from August 13 through the end of the year, ARS MACABRA: 25 years of miracles, posters, and fetishes will be presented, an exhibition where the public can appreciate the posters that have given the festival its identity from its first year to this year's 2026 image. Visitors will be able to see the evolution and changes in design and illustration, the different techniques that have been used, as well as how and when the mascot that has given the festival its visual identity first appeared.

The opening of this exhibition will take place on August 13 at 8:00 p.m., at the Museo Mexicano del Diseño, located at Bucareli 35, Col. Juárez, Mexico City. There will also be special merch for sale.

ARS MACABRA: 25 YEARS OF INVOCATIONS, FILMS, AND MONSTERS

MACABRO FICH, in collaboration with critics Javier Quintanar Polanco, Alberto Acuña Navarijo, and AJ Navarro, has put together a book featuring texts on selected films, written and commented on by various specialists, critics, writers, directors, and film promoters, with the aim of building a memory of the festival. This book, with archival photographs, film stills, press clippings, and historical documents from the festival's archive, will be a true treasure for genre fans in Mexico and a must-have book for film lovers in general.

The presentation of this book will take place at 5:00 p.m. sharp on August 13 at the Museo Casa de Carranza, located at Río Lerma 35, Cuauhtémoc, Mexico City, with the participation of authors, coordinators, and Edna Campos, director of MACABRO FICH
