Macabro presents its 20th-anniversary image: Macabro Vampiro

To mark the 20th anniversary of Macabro, Mexico City's International Horror Film Festival, we present the commemorative image, created by Diego Álvarez and Roxana Ruiz, the creative team behind the festival's artwork for more than ten years. The image features a Macabro Vampiro figure, paying tribute to the 90th anniversary of the premiere of the film Dracula, directed by Tod Browning and starring Bela Lugosi. This year, in addition to celebrating this significant milestone, Macabro will devote part of its programme and retrospectives to the figure of the vampire in cinema.

DATES AND VENUES
This year, the festival will run from August 19 to 29 with a hybrid model — in-person and digital venues — including the following confirmed venues: Cineteca Nacional, Museo Archivo de la Fotografía, Biblioteca de México, ULA Campus Del Valle, Red de FAROS CDMX, Plataforma Cine, Filminlatino, Facebook Procine, and Macabro on Facebook and YouTube. It is important to note that the festival will comply with Mexico City's health protocols and that its in-person activities are subject to the epidemiological traffic-light system.
Macabro is currently in an extraordinary registration period for its call for entries, which is open to national and international submissions and closes on May 31.
SUPPORT
This year, the festival has the institutional support of the Secretaría de Cultura through IMCINE, the Cineteca Nacional, and the Biblioteca de México, and of the Mexico City Secretaría de Cultura through PROCINE CDMX, the Museo Archivo de la Fotografía, and the Red de FAROS, as well as the support of the UNAM Film Library.
ABOUT MACABRO
Macabro is the first and most experienced genre-film festival in Mexico and the second-oldest in Latin America. It was created as a showcase for contemporary horror cinema as well as for the rescue and reappraisal of classic and cult film. Based in Mexico City since its first edition in 2002, it has put down deep roots and has helped build audiences for the genre and its various forms of expression.
