#MacabroCoven: 10 Facts about Nina Hagen.

She is the queen of punk, and also of our hearts, a woman who broke the mold and who also left her mark on the horror genre. Let's learn a bit more about Nina Hagen:

1.- Her parents were Hans Hagen and Eva María Hagen; her full name is Catharina Hagen, although we affectionately call her “Nina.” Her father died when she was a little girl.

2.- She began her music career with the band “Automobil,” which became a popular group in East Germany.

3.- In 1976, her stepfather, singer-songwriter Wolf Biermann, went to a performance on the other side of Germany, and afterward he was no longer allowed back into his home because of his political views; a demonstration was held in which both Nina and her mother stood at the front. The result? The family was expelled from East Germany with no hope of return.

4.- In 1977, now settled in West Germany, she founded “The Nina Hagen Band”.

5.- She was at the center of a television scandal on an Austrian TV program called “Club 2” in which she pretended to masturbate. (Quite the scandal.)

6.- In 1982 she released her first solo album, “NunSexMonRock” and the following year declared herself an “animal rights defender.”

7.- Her fame reached its peak in 1985, the year she was included on the lineup for the famous “Rock in Río” concert.

8.- After 18 years in punk, the diva Nina Hagen recorded an EP called “Punk Wedding.”

9.- In 1981, her daughter was born, whom she named Cosma Shiva, and in 1990 she moved with her child to Paris for a few years.

10.- Nina Hagen hosted a few TV programs. The most important of these was for British television and was called “Sci Fright” in which she was essentially the host, presenting a horror film.
