#MacabroXVII: Thank You!

From August 21 to September 2, 2018, Macabro emerged once again with a unique celebration of horror cinema, a coven of experiences that involved audiences and specialists in Q&A sessions with guests, master classes, workshops, music, retrospectives, tributes, and parties.
This year, Macabro's programme centered around celebrating the 40th anniversary of Alucarda: la hija de las tinieblas. The celebration Macabro prepared included the publication of a commemorative book and a special screening of the film.
Among the programme's highlights was the Latin American premiere of Nightmare Cinema directed by horror masters Alejandro Brugués, Joe Dante, Mick Garris, Ryuhei Kitamura, and David Slade. The festival's competition and showcase sections were once again shaped by the genre's variety and its subgenres, such as horror comedy films: Matar a Dios and Vidar the Vampire, by Casas & Pinto and Aske Berg & Waldeland, respectively; the influence of eighties horror through the slasher Christmas Blood by Reinert Kiil, the very extreme Trauma by Lucio A. Rojas; witchcraft explored from different points of view with The Witch Files by Kyle Rankin, A mata Negra (winner of Best Ibero-American Horror Feature Film) by Rodrigo Aragão, Luciferina by Gonzalo Calzada, and the documentary La otra magia by Leandro Bartoletti. Also noteworthy were the Mexican films México Bárbaro 2 and Mis demonios nunca juraron soledad.
We would like to thank our guest of honor, horror master Mick Garris, for joining us, as well as Fabián Forte, Gonzalo Calzada, Jorge Leyva, Lucio A.
