#Noticias: SmartFilms Celebrates Its Second Edition in Mexico and Formalizes an Alliance with Macabro

The film festival made exclusively with cell phones is back, and this year Macabro has formed an important alliance to tell new stories that combine horror + cell phones.

SmartFilms, the film festival made with cell phones, is celebrating its second edition in Mexico under the premise of empowering new talent, new stories, and different narratives. Giving a voice to those who didn't have one, this gathering seeks to democratize the audiovisual medium, relying on nothing more than a common, universally accessible device: the cell phone.
Thanks to its technology, this device has become a tool that drives people's creativity and innovation, and it has begun to revolutionize the way everyday life and the concerns of its users are told. SmartFilms wants to bring these stories to light and help them transcend.
Under the motto that “everyone can do it and everyone can watch it” (professionals and amateurs, children, young people, adults, or people with different abilities), we seek to make cinema accessible to anyone, anywhere in the world. The goal is to motivate them to tell true or fictional stories by making a short film no longer than five minutes.
The festival was founded in 2015, and since then it has received entries from 33 countries around the world. In 2018, the fourth edition in Colombia and the first in Mexico together drew more than 17,000 filmmakers, amassing around 2,000 different short films on the platform.
So, from May 2 to August 30, 2019, everyone interested will be able to take part in our worldwide call for entries. The main requirement is that the shorts be shot entirely on any type of cell phone, and that the submission include the official poster and behind-the-scenes footage of the film.
Entries may be eligible to compete in the different categories: Youth, Amateur, Advertising Video Spot, and Professional. The selected entries will be announced in late September 2019, and will be screened as part of the festival's second edition, to be held October 3, 4, and 5 at our official venue, General Prim 30, Colonia Juárez, CDMX. We will also have special guests, masterclasses, screening rooms, and cultural and academic events.
SmartFilms will have the support of valuable partners such as Motorola, Televisa, Interprotección, Turicia, TNT, and Pulso Design MX, among other academic institutions, film festivals, and partners who want to invest in art and new narratives.
It will also feature a free academic program that will bring cinema to different communities, academic spaces, and focus groups.
