#News: Edgar Nito Wins the "New Narrative Director" Award at Tribeca

We continue with good news for directors who have had a steady presence at Macabro. This time, it's about the filmmaker from Irapuato, Edgar Nito, who has stopped being a promise of Mexican cinema and become a reality thanks to his debut feature Huachicolero (The Gasoline Thieves), for which he received the "New Narrative Director" award given by the Tribeca Film Festival.

The film, a co-production between Mexico, Spain, the United States, and England, tells the story of "Lalo," a 14-year-old boy who wants to impress a girl, the synopsis reads.

His innocence drags him into the underworld of fuel theft, since, lacking money to buy a gift for the girl he loves, he gets involved with a gang of criminals who steal fuel.

After its premiere in New York, Huachicolero (The Gasoline Thieves), won over audiences, critics, and the jury alike with the aforementioned award.

Edgar Nito has been present at several editions of Macabro thanks to his short films' sweeping shots and elegant visual composition, with stories that explore genres like the western, the thriller, and horror with certain doses of violence. Among the shorts presented at the festival are Y volveré, Masacre en San José and the segment Jaral de Berrios, which was part of the first installment of the successful anthology México Bárbaro.

Congratulations to Edgar and everyone who took part in producing and making Huachicolero.
