Bite-sized horror: The Macabro FICH 2026 short film selection

73 short films from 13 countries are participating this year

MACABRO FICH will take place from August 12 to 23 of this year

Mexico City.- From August 12 to 23, the Mexican capital will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Mexico City International Horror Film Festival, MACABRO, and as in every edition, one of the most anticipated selections is the short films, which this year features more than 60 national and international projects.

In this way, small doses of terror arrive on the screen, tackling supernatural horror, psychological horror, folk horror, body horror, and science fiction. Stories that explore the deepest fears of the human being through evil entities, monsters, and paranormal phenomena, but also personal conflicts such as guilt, ambition, dementia, loss, and physical and emotional transformations.

For this year, the selection includes 17 national projects; 23 international ones from 13 countries such as the United States, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Portugal, Spain, Canada, England, Colombia, Australia, France, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom; and 24 animated shorts, 9 of them presented by FOCINE and PROCINE, from countries such as Mexico, Spain, Chile, France, Germany, England, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the United States, the Netherlands, France, and Taiwan.

Over the course of 25 years, MACABRO has established itself as a meeting point for contemporary independent cinema and film heritage, fostering a historical re-evaluation of classic and cult films.
