PROCINE LAUNCHES NINE CALLS FOR ENTRIES TO SUPPORT MEXICAN CINEMA

THE MEXICO CITY MINISTRY OF CULTURE, THROUGH PROCINE, LAUNCHES NINE CALLS FOR ENTRIES TO SUPPORT MEXICAN CINEMA
The Mexico City Ministry of Culture, through the Fideicomiso para la Promoción y Desarrollo del Cine Mexicano local (PROCINECDMX), will grant support for film directly to creators, exhibitors, and academic and audiovisual professionals who reside and are based in Mexico City.
For 2021, PROCINE is launching nine calls for entries covering the areas of research, professional training, production, exhibition, and promotion of Mexican cinema in the country's capital, and is incorporating new themes stemming from the health emergency caused by the pandemic.
Notable for their novelty are the "Support for the production of short films on the theme: consequences or effects on children and adolescents during the pandemic," "Support for the production of short films on the theme: Human Rights in times of pandemic," and the "Support for the production of short films on the theme: prevention of violence against women during the pandemic," which address audiences and forms of creation with very specific characteristics.
Also included is the "Support for research that drives the development of Mexican cinematography in Mexico City 2021," on the theme "The influence of Mexican cinema in Ibero-America and Ibero-America's contributions to Mexican cinema during the 20th century."
Likewise, support for exhibition venues is being reinforced through the "Support for equipping and promoting cultural spaces that promote and disseminate Mexican cinema in Mexico City (cineclubs and housing complexes in Mexico City)," aimed at spreading and fostering film culture and helping to revitalize civic life.
To strengthen exhibition and improve the collective experience, special efforts will be made with the boroughs, various city government institutions, and the more than 300 venues registered with the Network of Cineclubs and Mobile Cinemas identified by the Trust.
All support is awarded through the calls for entries, through evaluation processes involving professionals as members of the evaluation panels, whose decisions are autonomous and binding.
The nine calls for entries will be open from February 4 to May 6, 2021. The rules for each grant can be found at: https://www.procine.cdmx.gob.mx/
