Sinopsis: Matthew Lancit creció en Canadá, donde los adolescentes de su generación estuvieron marcados por el género cinematográfico del “body horror”. Siguiendo el ejemplo de eso, ¡PLAY DEAD! está extraído de su diario cotidiano de su familia, filmado durante cinco años. Presenta la “diabetes” como una presencia extraña y oculta que atormenta su apartamento y lo más profundo de su cuerpo. Utilizando códigos performativos y burlescos, la forma y el contenido se retroalimentan a medida que el cuerpo del cineasta se transforma gradualmente en un caparazón embrujado. Mezclado con comedia, ironía y ternura, PLAY DEAD! media la complejidad de vivir con la enfermedad, vivir con alguien que la padece, y cómo las relaciones oscilan entre el cuidado, la escucha y la impaciencia, la ira o el miedo. Synopsis: Matthew Lancit grew up in Canada, where teenagers of his generation were marked by the “body horror” film genre. Taking cue from that, PLAY DEAD! is culled from his diary of his family’s quotidian, filmed over five years. He stages the ‘diabetes’ as a hidden, alien presence that haunts his apartment and the very depths of his body. Using performative and burlesque codes, form and content feed off each other as the filmmaker’s body transforms gradually into a haunted shell. Laced with comedy, irony and tenderness, PLAY DEAD! mediates the complexity of living with the disease, living with someone afflicted with it, and how relationships oscillate between caring, listening, and impatience, anger, or fear.
