#MacabroXVIII: Fifth Program Update

We're getting closer and closer to the eighteenth edition, and we keep sharing previews and surprises from this year's activities:

SPOT MACABRO 2019

Directed by Sharon Toribio, based on an idea of her own and of Edna Campos, director of Macabro, the ghostly Macabro spot presents a collage of images, textures, and sounds of five women from another era trapped in time.

The short film was produced by Macabro FICH in collaboration with Fix Comunicación and CTT Exp, and was shot at the Hacienda de la Concordia, home to Cervecería Concordia.

OFFICIAL SELECTION PREVIEWS

Our selection's latest preview is headed by REBORN, starring none other than one of the greatest Scream Queens working today: Barbara Crampton. It is the latest film from British director and producer Julian Richards, who will be one of our special guests. The film blends science fiction and horror to tell the story of a young woman who sows destruction and death in a desperate search for her mother.

Also competing for the Ibero-American horror award will be the nightmare from Cuban director Rudy Riverón Sánchez, ¿ERES TÚ PAPÁ? A tale of witchcraft and paranormal events that has amazed everyone with its outstanding craftsmanship and its string of awards on the festival circuit.

DEODATO HOLOCAUST

Another of the highlights of this year is the Mexico premiere of the documentary DEODATO HOLOCAUST, by Brazilian director Felipe M. Guerra, which unpacks the story behind one of the most controversial films in horror film history: “Cannibal Holocaust,” as told by its creator, Ruggero Deodato.

“Cannibal Holocaust” will screen alongside the documentary for an even more terrifying experience. Considered one of the first found-footage films, it premiered in 1980 and launched one of the most disturbing subgenres in horror cinema: Mondo.
