Martes Macabro: The Best Horror Movies on Mexican Netflix

Since a lot of people don't know how to use an IP hider (the easiest one to use is Hola.org (abre en nueva pestaña), for anyone brave enough to try it), we decided to put together a list of the best horror on Mexican Netflix — simple as that, and just to save ourselves the hassle. So this list won't be exactly like our previous ones, we're going to skip all the movies we've already recommended before, like The Babadook, It Follows, Honeymoon, Late Phases and Sangre de mi sangre.

We're also going to skip the classics — the kind of classics you're technically supposed to have already seen — movies like Night of the Living Dead, Carrie, El despertar del diablo and 28 Days Later; instead, we're going to focus more on newer films and/or really good movies that (whether because of lack of promotion, because they never made it to theaters, or because they're small independent productions) aren't as well known.

Here are 6 really good options to watch on Netflix if what you want is to avoid any hassle with hiding your IP (or if you honestly have no idea what an IP is or why you'd need to hide it.)

S&Man (Sandman).- This one is VERY recent, made on a shoestring budget, and really it's just a very good script, very well executed — nothing complicated about it — and the reason it grabs us horror fans' attention so much is that it deals with the dark, grim little world of snuff which, by the way, has thankfully never been proven to actually exist.

Jeepers Creepers (El demonio).- Justin Long appears in two very good horror movies, this one and Drag Me to Hell. Unfortunately, this film has been overshadowed because the director, Victor Salva, was accused of pedophilia, and that's actually the reason the third installment (which he was set to direct) never got made. Still, it's a very effective monster movie.

Spellbinder (La hora de los brujos).- Nobody remembers this supernatural horror and witchcraft movie, and honestly, people really should go back to it with more appreciation and love. A handsome young guy rescues an equally good-looking girl who's being attacked by her boyfriend in a parking lot — oh, big mistake. What follows is a really good story about cults and the occult.

The Possession (Posesión satánica).- In the ever-growing canon of possession movies, there's no shortage of films that are barely above average, and most of the rest range from downright mediocre to worse than smacking a kid outside a church (that bad, basically.) The Possession is more consistent than The Taking of Deborah Logan, but for some reason it never got as much hype.

Dead End (Atajo al infierno).- Another one nobody remembers and that deserves more views, Dead End is a pretty decent supernatural revenge movie in which a family is punished for something they don't remember, and it's not really clear what until right at the very end.

The Town That Dreaded Sundown.- One of the most important slashers in history, which is also based on a real case, The Town That Dreaded Sundown has a terrible sequel that should be avoided at all costs, but it's well worth revisiting this minor classic and, while you're at it, watching the documentary Killer Legends where they mention it and go in depth about the killer who inspired this movie.
