10 Important Facts About "Pet Samatary" Ahead of Its Remake

This weekend, the remake of the 1989 film “Pet Sematary”, directed by Mary Lambert and based on the novel by the famous Stephen King, hits movie theaters.
That's why we want to share with you 10 important facts about this film so you can learn a little more about it before the premiere of the new version of a classic.

1.- Stephen King's novel was published in 1983 and a year later was nominated for the “World Fantasy Award for Best Novel”. For many, it's King's best adaptation (remember, the remake of “It” didn't exist yet).
2.- Stephen King mentions that he was inspired by the story “The Monkey's Paw” (abre en nueva pestaña) (abre en nueva pestaña) by W.W. Jacobs to write “Pet Sematary”. (If you don't know it, read it—it's one of the best.)
3.- The punk band “Ramones” made a song for this film, which shares its name, and which is included on the CD “Brain Drain”.
4.- The animated series “South Park” has an episode based on the story of “Pet Samatary”, called “Cementerio Indio”.
5.- Director Mary Lambert spent many years directing music videos, working with artists such as Janet Jackson, Annie Lenox, Mick Jagger and Madonna, for the latter directing videos as important as “Like a Virgin”, “Material Girl”, “La Isla Bonita” and “Like a Prayer”.
6.- Fred Gwynne, best known for his role as Herman Munster on the classic series “The Munsters”, plays Jud Crandall.

7.- Stephen King wrote the screenplay for this film.
8.- Bruce Campbell (Evil Dead) was the first choice to play the lead, Louis Creed, and George Romero was offered the director's chair, but because production was delayed, he had to leave the project (he went on to direct “Monkey Shines”, or “Atracción Diabólica”).
9.- Stephen King makes a “cameo”, appearing as a priest officiating mass in the cemetery.
